Because her dad owned a grocery store in Dolgeville, NY, Sandy grew up in "the hub of life." A child of Christian Scientists, Sandy was raised in a metaphysical home. At 18, Sandy left for Antioch College, a politically and socially active work co-op school in Ohio. Subsequently, she graduated with a degree in early childhood education from Ohio State and married her husband, an Indian national studying abroad in the US. "In those days, interracial marriage was new and different. I guess I've always liked making non-traditional choices. I like to see the brink of things coming."

When they took their two young sons to live with his family in Hyderabad, India for more than a year, "I got this sense that everyone in India acknowledged a creator or creative force. I realized that all was important; all was noticed. Here, outward spirituality - this sense of soul - was not just accepted, it was a way of life. And it felt very natural to me. I realized then that people didn't fit in categories."

It may seem a trifle mundane relative to Sandy's intrepid spirit, but she spent much of her professional career working in a dentist's office. "He was a very innovative dentist! And I learned that adventure isn't just about exploring mountains; it's about exploring your own soul. And I also enjoy exchanging ideas and experiences with others who possess a multicultural view." And that is the perspective that Sandy brings as a founding member of The Spring. "The Spring is based upon a principle that there is a non-judgmental, universal truth that transcends human experience. It is not chaos. In India, I experienced this ancient truth: the whole world is connected. We are all beating with one heart. And I can feel that heart beating through everything we do at The Spring."
